FOR BUILDERS · ARCHITECTS · DESIGNERS
You build the house. We help it feel like home.
Obsidian Audio Video designs and installs audio, video, lighting control, shades and networks for custom homes across Greater Houston, works alongside your team from plans to handover, and stays with your clients long after closing.
WHAT YOUR CLIENTS REMEMBER
Years from now, they won’t talk about the equipment.
Your clients will remember the house you built. What they talk about years later is how it feels to live in it: music in the kitchen on a Saturday morning while the house gets put back together, lights that come up the way they expect for dinner, a holiday with the whole family over and the sound exactly where it should be.
That feeling is what we design for. We genuinely love audio and video, and we would rather spend another hour on how a room sounds than hand over a system that only technically works. A system that works is the minimum. A home that feels right is the goal.
NOT A PACKAGE
Every family is its own project.
We don’t sell packages. Before we draw anything, we sit down with your clients and listen: how they live, what they listen to, where the family gathers, which rooms are for quiet and what they never want to think about. Two homes on the same street end up with different systems because the families in them are different.
Your clients are not a job number to us, and they can tell. That reflects on you.
OBSIDIAN AV WORK
Planned with the house, not added to it.

Why partner with a dedicated AV integrator
Homebuyers in Houston's luxury market expect smart home technology — but most builders and architects aren't AV specialists. When AV is an afterthought, the results are visible: conduit runs that miss the right locations, equipment racks shoved into closets, wires surface-mounted where they should be hidden, and control systems that no one on the project team can service.
When AV is designed into the project from the start — before sheetrock, before the electrician roughs-in, before the cabinet maker builds the rack enclosure — the technology becomes invisible. Speakers live in the ceiling behind paintable grilles. Keypads replace banks of light switches. The equipment rack lives in a ventilated, accessible location. The network supports every device the home will ever need. And the homeowner gets a system that works the day they move in — not six months of "we'll get the AV guy out next week."
What we bring to your project
Pre-Construction Design
Wiring plans, equipment specifications, and rack layouts delivered before the first stud goes up.
Structured Wiring
Cat 6A, coaxial, speaker wire, and control cabling — properly labeled, tested, and documented.
Network Infrastructure
Enterprise-grade managed networking: routers, switches, VLANs, and Wi-Fi access points designed for whole-home coverage.
Lighting & Shade Integration
Lutron dimming, keypads, and motorized shades — designed to match the architecture and the interior designer's vision.
Home Theater & Media Rooms
Dedicated theater design: projection, Dolby Atmos, acoustics, and calibration — engineered as a room, not a collection of equipment.
Programming & Control
Crestron, Control4, and Savant programming — scenes, interfaces, and automation that feel intentional and natural.
Documentation & Handoff
Complete system documentation: wiring diagrams, equipment inventory, network configuration, and a homeowner walkthrough.
Ongoing Service
We service everything we install — and we document it so future service is fast and affordable.
Who we work with
We work with:
- Custom home builders — in Memorial, River Oaks, The Woodlands, Bellaire, West University, Cypress, and throughout Greater Houston
- Architects — designing new construction and major renovations where AV and automation are part of the architectural vision
- Interior designers — integrating speakers, keypads, and control surfaces into the design without compromising aesthetics
- Remodelers — upgrading existing homes with modern AV, networking, and smart home systems during renovation
How it works
1. Conversation. We meet with your team (and the homeowner, if appropriate) to understand the project, the budget, and the experience the client wants.
2. Design. We deliver a complete AV design package: wiring plans, equipment specifications, rack locations, and a budget. This becomes part of the construction documents.
3. Pre-Wire. We run and label all low-voltage cabling before sheetrock. We coordinate with the electrician, the HVAC contractor, and the cabinet maker.
4. Trim-Out. We install speakers, keypads, panels, and access points. We test every cable and document the system.
5. Programming & Calibration. We configure the control system, calibrate audio and video, program scenes, and test every function.
6. Handoff. We walk the homeowner through the system, deliver documentation, and provide ongoing service.
After closing, when your client calls, we answer.
When a client calls on a Friday night because the TV won’t come on and guests are on the way, we pick up, even late. It’s the right thing to do, and it’s part of why we love this work. It also means those calls don’t land on you or your superintendent. The system we install stays our responsibility after the keys change hands.
